This small commemorative series was issued in 1960 and is devoted to individual heroes of the Great Patriotic War — the stamps show portraits and scenic backgrounds related to the deeds of celebrated officers and commanders. The artistic approach combines a realistic portrait within an oval medallion with a lively battle scene in the background: one stamp depicts an aviator and an air clash, the other shows a general and a battlefield with military equipment.

Compositionally, the stamps aim to merge the personal image with a collective military theme: the portrait is emphasized by a decorative frame and a ribbon-like nameplate, while the area around the portrait is filled with dynamic action — aircraft, tanks, infantry, or command scenes — which enhances the sense of historical drama and heroism. The color scheme pairs muted brown and sepia tones for the portrait with more contrasting, “martial” accents in the background.
