Confirmed varieties of Anton Chekhov 1960

The series was issued in January 1960 to mark the centenary of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s birth. The two stamps feature portraits of the writer alongside the facades of houses-museums associated with him — the Moscow house and the Yalta house. The issue is commemorative in nature and honours Chekhov’s importance to Russian literature and culture.

Zavyalov; the layout pairs Chekhov’s portrait with architectural silhouettes of the museum houses, emphasizing the connection between the author’s life and the preserved historical sites.
