Confirmed varieties of Animals

The 1959 Soviet postage stamp series “Animals” was part of a larger thematic collection dedicated to wildlife and nature conservation. These issues reflected the era’s growing interest in natural sciences and showcased the rich diversity of the country’s fauna.

Artists portrayed animals in their natural environments with striking realism: the stamps feature a tiger, hazel hen and other species native to the Soviet lands. Each composition is balanced and detailed, capturing the movement and character of the animals. The color palette ranges from soft greens and browns to colder bluish hues, enhancing the lifelike atmosphere.

Beyond artistic merit, the series served an educational purpose, reminding citizens of the importance of protecting nature. Due to their craftsmanship and expressiveness, these stamps quickly became favorites among collectors and are still regarded as some of the most beautiful issues in Soviet philately.
