In 1959, the USSR issued a commemorative postal series dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Stepanovich Popov. The stamps of this series, executed in a restrained color palette, feature a portrait of the eminent physicist and inventor against the background of various symbols of his era—radio masts, schematics, and maritime landscapes, emphasizing the inseparable connection of his discoveries with the development of radio and the navy. This issue not only immortalized the memory of the great scientist but also clearly demonstrated the high level of printing art of the Soviet postal service of that time.
